The Challenges
The PLQ project was a unique development part of a Larger development managed by Lend Lease in the heart of Singapore. The project conditions were dynamic which give rise to many unforeseen circumstances. Such situations decrease productivy and increase downtime. This motivated the adoption of Lean PlanDo. Some of the project challenges faced which impacted the project prodution process and the timelines: 1. Major Initial delays due to Late handover, manpower shortage & delayed formwork. 2. Constrained space & access due to concurrent development of other plots. 3. Restricted nightshift due to residential locality.
The Outcomes
After Hexacon adopted Lean PlanDo in their proejcts, the following improvements were seen in project execution: 1. Constraints were better managed as staff could identify and resolve issues in advance. 2. All parties were clear of each other’s responsibilities which helped them to carry out various duries in sync and more effectively. 3. 23% Productivity improvement achieved in the overall project that helped in increasing the rate of progress consistently to meet the target.
