Lean Station will be presenting a paper on Improving Construction Quality with Lean thinking and processes. Sharath Waikar, Cofounder, CEO of Lean Station will be giving a talk on how LEAN thinking has been improving quality in the construction Industry. Lean Station helps companies adopt LEAN practices using Lean PlanDo, it's pioneering planning and project management method and tool.
Construction productivity has been flat over several decades while other labour intensive industries are experiencing improved productivity. Construction projects have been poorly managed, and cost has always played a dominant role while both time and quality have been traded off for lowering costs. Other factors like unreliable planning, lack of commitment and a collaborative culture have led to weaker control over construction processes. These have compounded the problem of project delays, wasted time, defects and reworks.
Lean Station is building Lean PlanDo which is a medium for applying LEAN construction in construction projects. LEAN construction is the application of LEAN thinking and methodologies into construction projects for building faster with better quality at reduced costs. Its core principle is to maximize value (including resource usage and quality) and minimize wastes such as: defects, reworks, waiting time, etc. The main emphasis of lean construction is on reliable forward planning, embracing a commitment and collaborative culture among all project parties.
